Day 2 - 5 Safari

OFF ON SAFARI

Align LeftOk the beauty of the blog is that you do not even have to open it and I still get credit for Jerryizing for a couple of weeks though it is not going to happen every day but just every event. Finally learned/remembered (with professor Chris' assistance; and Lisa's comforting words as he is a mean teacher) how to do a blog. Can't believe we got it down so well during the &*^% (can't say it; Danny might be reading) but it is coming back sort of.....
Anyway after a wonderful reception by Lisa and Chris; Jane, Lisa and I set off for Amakhala game preserve....a 6- to 80 thousand acre private game park about 6 hours drive from Capetown but not so far in you get on Kululu Airways and fly to Port Elizabeth.

Which is what we did...rented a car and drove about an hour to the park and our lodge.
which was very much like the real thing - oops it was the real thing with a watering hole, spiked roofs and an open bar...Not sure what exactly happens when you get to be about a hundred and five but Jane decided to stay in the room with Lisa lest one of them be afraid to be alone. I only went there to kill an occasional spider or a boomslong (maybe that was in my room)..So I got to be alone in my room save for the wild life and here it is..

Here is my outdoor sky shower where I was able luxuriate in a hot shower
My outdoor plunge pool where I get mighty burned on the second sunny after noon between game drives. My insect screened bed-no Malaria or prophylaxis for same here!!

Shortly after arrival we had some tea and headed off on a drive. The drives were great and we were pretty lucky with the animals. We would go on two a day with large breakfast and snooze or burning on the patio in between. The first afternoon we caught a cheetah and two cubs trying to stalk some distant impala.
Looking....

Pointing..

and this one caught and is eating a Daikur in the bushes...did not get to see the kill but yummy raw Daikur..hmmm..hmmm..good.
The place was crawling with horses...all apparently prisoners dressed out in their striped pjs
Typical African sunset on the way in from our first drive and we ran into
Mom
the couple
and Dad!
We were happy to see my Nut Buddy and Chase browsing in the bush.
Know what you call a group of Giraffe??? TOWER
and Look! Its Sienna, Jayce and the Mom...ok except for the Mom that's a stretch.

Can you believe these guys eat leaves and pick their teeth at the same time? Can you believe how strong these ant hills are??? Believe me now or when you see upcoming photos of car she leaned against....

Daddy Impala with the McDonalds sign on the rear. we did eat impala, kudu and I am not sure, but I think, a little doodoo. Our friendly guide Jacques found no one home in this condo!
Mom and Pop Ostrich were gettin it on...
and again we ran into Daddy!
A couple of male Hartebeast fought it out to get the girls..
and we all stayed out of this guys way!
We were elated to see Eland
and wondered what these Impala were staring at.
Think they were a bit worried about the Cheetah as the Lion prefer Brasbok.

Sure thought of the Butt sisters a lot and glad Joey and Diana got a great visit in...
and you called me Bucky!
One trunk can hold 17 liters of water..
and this little guy drank his share.
White Rhino not really as fierce as the Black but remind me of this date I had...
Hey What do you get if you cross and Elephant and a Rhino?????

Answer: ELEPINO!!!! get it???
Do you know the capital of Alaska?
Sure I do but do you???
On Thursday we headed home on our favorite 1 Time Airlines....fortunately for us it was not the time....
Chris met us for dinner and we went to one of their favoirite italian restaurants!!! All happy...a great time...and I am fat...when I get back 17 days of strict...hell with it..

Only protein shakes in the future....these Honesty Bars are killing me.
Love
